8/kg54 1943

I have a skin for Combat Flight Simulator 2 (see attachment) that has me puzzled. It depicts He-111H B3+B of 8/KG54 in Russia in 1943. However according to Michael Holm's site, this unit was not in Russia during this time, or had He-111's in its inventory. Gruppe IV however did, according to Holm.

Does anyone know whether this is just a popular misconception or was 8/KG54 really in Russia?

Re: 8/kg54 1943

KG 54 flew He 111s thru the Battle of France and then somewhere during/after that time switched to Ju 88s before/during the Battle of Britain. In 1943 KG 54 was primarily based in the Med, with some parts of the unit based in France and being part of the on-going Blitz against the UK. This is all off the top of my head mind you. In 43 the major He111 units in the East would have been KGs 27, 53 & 55. Again this is from memory via the recording of innummerable losses from the Lw. GQM reports without actually digging them out and looking.

Re: 8/kg54 1943

Jim P. is correct. 10./KG 54 had a few He 111 losses in the Med in 1943, but the main unit(s) was flying Ju 88s in the time period.

I would suspect that the designers of the game are much like the editors who put together those films on the History Channel: Proper type and time period mean nothing to them. Their attitude seems to be, "hey, whatever, its a German plane"!

Thanks guys. That's what I suspected was going on but wanted some other opinions on the subject. I thought the KG's you mentioned Jim P were the only He-111 units in Russia, that's why this skin seemed so strange. And since my post, I see Il2 has it as well, not to mention some models out there.
