Ullmann's colour charts

Simple (?) question: are the RLM paint chips included in the Hikoki 2002 edition of Ullmann's book on Luftwaffe colours suitable to identifying colour shades on various aircraft wrecks? I was told they are too small and shiny, so they are not acceptable.

Thank you for your opinions.

Re: Ullmann's colour charts

The bigger the chip the better, but if that's what you've got then they should be enough. One point to watch for is that the chip is laid directly onto the surface, with no white surround which does affect perceptions.

However, there are larger chips available in the rear of the two Merrick books from Classic Pubs.

Re: Ullmann's colour charts

The colour analysis is already done (see my Hungarian Fighter Colours book, vol. 1). The only issue is if Ullmann's colour chips (published in Hikoki's 2002 edition) are acceptable, or not.

Yes they are. How's that for lack of rhetoric or undo verbosity!

Indeed, your answer can be used as template for a laconic reply (no rhetoric or undo verbosity!). Only one comma I believe is missing after Yes.

Re: Ullmann's colour charts

Dénes,
IMO, the answer is not (just) a simple yes or no. I would like to put it this way:
• In theory and for practical/ pragmatic reasons, I see no objections. So, yes, they could be used.
• Scientifically spoken and with the restrictions and limitations given on the original RLM charts, your question would probably have to be a "maybe not".
But then, as I said, "in my opinion".
