"M" Numbers ?
Hello and a Happy New Year to all,
"M" numbers, while looking through the K- File and other AB Serial number books I found most of what I was seeking. However there were several that I was unable to match up, they were the following - 2108M 2110M 2114M 2120M 2122M 2141M 2149M 2151M 2152M 2155M 2156M 2160M 2166M 2172M 2182M 2190M Can anyone match up an RAF serial number to any of the "M" numbers given above please ? Thank you, expect more requests to follow over the year. Alex |

Re: "M" Numbers ?
Hello Paul,
Many thanks. It would seem that some a/c with "M" numbers were at some stage in their lives given new later "M" numbers - any ideas as to why this was done ? I also came up with one a/c in the 2100-2200 block that had two numbers, W Wallace K3677 had 2118M and also 2135M, but at the same time ? Looking at the "J" series I have only found one -so far - in the 500 range but still looking for more. From the info in AB's RN Instructional Airframes it would seem that the "M"'s started from January 1921 with "1M" and that early numbers were destroyed at some point. It gets a bit muddy with the "S" series rebuilds when they became "SR" but were the "M" numbers allotted to these a/c issued before the rebuilds or after ? Many thanks for your time and the detailed reply. I look forward to this new AB Book, thanks for the notice. Thank You, Alex |

Re: "M" Numbers ?
Alex
Very much postwar ![]() 8876M was listed as a Kirby Cadet Glider ex XM719. This is obviously wrong since XM719 was a canx H.P. Victor.... Since my glider knowledge is not exactly glowingly hot, I would rather like to make step down on further thoughts about it. 8964M was a Lightning F.6 ex XR758 which last unit was 11 Sq and was delivered from Binbrook (I like that name to Laarbruch as a battle damage repair trainer on 10.5.1988.9231M was assigned after I stopped cataloguing the M-numbers (1997). My last list file (Sep 1997 issue of SEAR) has it as allocation unknown.... Cheers Stig |
