Fi 156 grouping

I discovered the attached photo of a group of Fieseler Storches from a superb web page belonging to Bruce Richards, which covered his time in the US Army in Germany. The selection of photos contained images of the Fieseler Werke in and around Kassel.

The attached photo shows a group at Fieseler Werke III in Waldau.

Can anybody give me some details of the aircraft shown?

I notice that most of the aircraft have numbers on their Rudders. Are these temporary or are they part of a unit? The registration codes are difficult to distinguish so any clue to these would be appreciated.

The web page is http://brucerichards.com/army/fieseler%20werke.htm

Regards

Colin

Re: Fi 156 grouping

I have found that this topic has been on the Forum previously, but covering the Kassel works in general. The user was 393bird and he has a web page http://www.qsl.net/wd4ngb/kasselpics.htm with a lot of info.

I am still puzzled about the registrations of the Fi156 aircraft so if anyone can help I would appreciate it

Regards

Colin

Fi156s with numbers on rudders were used during "Operation Niwi" in May 1940.
Or numbers for ferry purpose ?

Re: Fi 156 grouping

Thank you so much Von Alles for your pointer.

There is quite a bit of information on the various web forums about the operation itself, but with no real information of the losses.

I have records of 2 aircraft with AufklGr 156 (the unit designation for the operation) namely PC+ZL - White 24 and RX+NO (no number on rudder)

I also have 3 aircraft with rudder numbers: namely ND+XY - white 12, VA+UJ - white 16 and VA+UZ - white 17. but no unit information.

Barry Rosch has an entry in his book "Luftwaffe Codes, Markings & Units" for AufklGr 156, but with no aircraft information.

I searched the TOCH forum for NIWI and there was postings dating from 2007 to 2012. On a couple of occasions it has been stated that 22 losses have been recorded by the GQM. Would it be possible for the owners of this information to share this with me.

Regards

Colin
