6/JG2 Movement from France to Italy on December 1942

good morning all,

On 12 December 1942, 6/JG2 flew from north of France to Italy.

Any information on this move of 6/JG2 ?

what was the destination in Italy?

the number of aircraft involved?

Any anecdote ?

Thanks a lot, as usual, guys...

GC

PS : during that ferry flight, a FW190A crashed near Carcassonne, killing his pilot.

Gilles
Wasn't II/JG 2 in/going to North Africa then? I have a 6/JG 2 loss at Bizerta 3 Dec, SW Millau 10 Dec and then a number of losses at Kairouan Jan 43 onwards. For 12 Dec, I have FW 190 A-2, Wk Nr 210 crashing where you say with the death of Uffz August Stiefelhagen (VDK say he was killed at Toulouse)

Thanks Chris; and Gogh;

this makes sense: II JG2 going to North Afrika, probably via Italy.

As a matter of fact, I am working on August Stiefelhagen aircraft you mention (he was in fact killed near Carcassonne, so, he was probably reported "killed in Toulouse" which is not far away).

August Stiefelhagen aircraft aircraft was an A3 (Source Matti), so it was probably the first one listed (KE+CE WNr.0130210) in Gogh's list;

Cheers

Re: 6/JG2 Movement from France to Italy on December 1942

The II./J.G. 2 moved mid of November 1942 over South of France and San Pietro (Sicily) to Tindja, Bizerta and Kairouan (Tunisia). Mid of May 1943 moved back to France.

The 0130210 should be the A-3 of Uffz. Stiefelhagen.
