Captured Fw-190A-8 9./JG-301
While looking through my old issues of the Luftwaffe Verband. I came across the list of German aircraft flown or captured by the USSR (LW Verband 1-99).
On this list is Fw-190A-8, WN 682011, 9./JG-301,captured at Rakitnoye on October 10,1944, flown by Ofw. K. Petersen. A net search find the plane being tested by the Soviets against other Russian fighters. The book "Jadgeschwader 301/302" by Reschke has Fw-190A-8, WN 682011, flown by Ofw. Karl Petersen MIA. So, did Herr Petersen desert or was it an accident? The book by Willi Rescke has the following: "Ofw. Karl Petersen of the 9th Staffel and Uffz Walter Kugler of the 12th Staffel were delayed for a day at Alperstedt due to mechanical problems. Both departed the next day but on reaching the Harz Petersen inexplicably turned away to the west. He failed to arrive at Stendal." |
