LAC Stutely/Stuteley 500 Squadron 1940
Hi guys
I'm hoping to identify the above, who flew as an air gunner on Ansons with 500 Squadron mid-1940. Any help appreciated. Cheers Brian |

Re: LAC Stutely/Stuteley 500 Squadron 1940
Brian,
I have looked at all the Stukely and Stukeley entries in AIR 78. Going by the service numbers there is only one which matches the 1940 timeframe. He is 812267 Cecil Guy Stukeley (in AIR 78/153/1/page 848). The nice part is that he was Auxiliary Air Force, and the 812000-812999 batch of service numbers was reserved for 500 Squadron ! (from 'ACES HIGH, Vol. 2' by Chris Shores). This Stukeley was Mentioned in Despatches dated 31 December 1940 in the London Gazette, but as an AC2 ! He was commissioned in 1945. Regards, Martin Gleeson. |

Re: LAC Stutely/Stuteley 500 Squadron 1940
It's a long shot but I have the following name showing up:
https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...nt/41/data.pdf C G Stuteley 812267 A.A.F listed as a Aircraftman Second Class Then in the July 17, 1945 Gazette https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/.../3666/data.pdf we find under RAFVR General Duties Branch Appointment to Commission As Pilot officers on prob . (emergency) 812267 Cecil Guy Stuteley (198288) 19th March 1945 Now whether this is the chap you're looking for is unknown as no service listing is shown but the odd last name and rank he was at in 1941 means he may be a candidate. EDIT: Too slow! Martin's beat me to it! Nice work! EDIT: The last reference I found for him in the Gazette was in the Oct 11 1960 Gazette: Quote:

Thanks guys
That has to be 'my' man - his pilot also received a MiD. Great stuff! Cheers Brian |
