224 Sqn ORB or combat report on 16 February 1941
According to the book "1941 the turning point, vol 1" by John Foreman, on 16 February 1941, a Bf 110 engaged off Stavanger the Hudson T9344 of 224 Sqn RAF, which was damaged. Plt Off Holmes and his crew were safe and returned to Great Britain.
On the German side, the Bf 110 D-3 WNr 4265 of Stab III./ZG 76 took off from Forus, Norway, for an operational sortie but didn't return. The pilot, Ltn. Dieter Uhlmann, and his gunner, Gefr. Helmut Hochleitner, were both lost. Foreman says Uhlmann engaged the Hudson and later crashed into the sea. If someone has the ORB for 224 Sqn for this day or the combat report, I will be interested to see what the British crew reported, especially if they claimed hits on the Bf 110. Thanks in advance |
