Bernhard Wilhelm Klemens Lugering - Luftwaffe P.o.W.
Hello everyone
I'm looking for any information about this Luftwaffe navigator, who became a P.o.W. in 1944 after being shot down in Kent. He was imprisoned at Harperley P.o.W. Camp, then stayed in the UK after the war, married a County Durham girl and died in 2002 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne after being in a car accident. Long shot, but hopefully someone may have some pointers... Regards Simon |

Re: Bernhard Wilhelm Klemens Lugering - Luftwaffe P.o.W.
Have you tried genealogy sites like ancestry.com? I had a quick look (via my wife's membership) and he's there. Born 23 March 1922; Married Vera Nicholson in April 1956 in Derby; died July 2003 in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne but was on the electoral roll for Nottingham at the time of his death.

Re: Bernhard Wilhelm Klemens Lugering - Luftwaffe P.o.W.
Thanks Nick.
I did look for him on Ancestry and FindMyPast but couldn'd find him at all! There was a story in the Northern Echo in December 2002 about his death, and has some interesting details of his life. https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/ne...ever-went-home I did see on the Kracker Archive that another member of the crew was Uffz. K. Matschin, who along with Lugering and one other became a P.o.W. One other crew member was killed in action. Regards Simon |

Re: Bernhard Wilhelm Klemens Lugering - Luftwaffe P.o.W.
Uffz Kurt Matschin (F) & Ogefr Werner Claus (BS) POW; Uffz Andreas Marliot (B) killed. They were on their second flight, the first over UK and he was not the navigator but Bordfunker
