Steve Ginter, author

from Facebook: Angelo Romano

For those of you who may have missed this sad news, I am deeply sorry to announce that Steve J. Ginter passed away in his sleep, on 31 May 2026, after a short illness which manifested after his return from Hawaii two weeks before.
Steve Ginter was a highly regarded niche publisher specializing in comprehensive, deeply detailed monographs on military aviation, including three series.
A) Flagship Book Series Naval Fighters Series (NF): This is the centerpiece collection. It captures the design, testing, and deployment history of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aircraft. The catalog spans well over 120 individual entries, including recent installments like Chance Vought Regulus II (NF 125) and Boeing XPBB-1 Sea Ranger (NF 124).
B) Air Force Legends Series (AFL): This companion series shifts focus exclusively to landmark United States Air Force planes, prototypes, and experimental cold-war aircraft. Notable entries include Northrop F-20 Tigershark (AFL 228) and North American B-45 Tornado (AFL 224).
C) US Navy Squadron Histories (NF300 series): A dedicated subset authored by Angelo Romano, featuring detailed pictorial chronologies of iconic naval threat environment groups and specific strike fighter squadrons (such as the World Watchers or Diamondbacks).
The loss of Steve Ginter for me goes well beyond a simple "loss of a friend."
Steve has fostered my passion for Naval Aviation History, and unconditionally supported the publication of my seven books in the US NAVY SQUADRON HISTORIES series.
He has always been a true gentleman in our relationship, and I will miss him forever.
One can say of him what is written on Machiavelli's tomb: "Tanto nomini nullum par elogium." (No praise is sufficient for so great a man.)
Rest in peace, Steve! See less
