Floats of Luftwaffe floatplanes
Hi guys...
I just found out an interesting fact that I think should be noted as I continue editing our He 115 book. The construction of seaplane floats did not take place in the workshops of Heinkel, Junkers, or anywhere else. Instead, they were completely predetermined developments by a department created especially for this purpose, and were referred to as 'Einheitsschwimmer'. Try as I might I can't find any information (easily) online. Can anyone shed some more light on this topic? What is an exact translation for 'Einheitsschwimmer'? It's just a side-note, but currently un-commented upon in the text. cheers Rich

Re: Floats of Luftwaffe floatplanes
I think the Einheitsschwimmer were developed by DVL and that they were constructed with various sizes - litres - giving them a certain floatation capacity that would match aircraft of varous sizes.
