Unit Code 4N+ --> (F)/22, (F)/120 or (F)/124?
Hello everyone,
I am trying to find out which unit used the code 4N+ in 1945. The answer is probably not straight forward as several units were disolved and integrated into others at the end of the war. But I have two mysteries that I am trying to solve: (1) 4N+ in a Flugbuch confirmed by (F)/124: The Flugbuch of Hans Hasenmüller shows flights with codes G2+ until May 1945. G2+ fits (F)/124, which fits as the flights were confirmed by a stamp of (F)/124. In May he then had a "Versetzung" from Kirkenes to Vaernes. He then flew Ju 88 with codes starting with 4N+. Until October 44 from Vaernes, then Bardufoss until March 1945. I first thought that he was with 1.(F)/22 until end of the war, but that unit left Norway in January 1945. I then thought that he may have transferred to 1.(F)/120 in January 1945 as that Staffel took over many if not all of 1.(F)/22's aircraft. However, the flights until 26 March 1945 are confirmed and stamped by 1.(F)/124. So does anybody know with which unit he served from May 44 to May 45? (2) 4N+ used by a Ju 188: As far as I know (F)/22 only operated Ju 88s until they left Norway in January 1945. It is often stated that (F)/22 handed over its aircraft to other reconnaissance units in Jan 45 and that therefore there were still many Ju 88 with codes 4N+ in 1945 in Norway. However, a Ju 188 coded 4N+E(orF)H is known that flew from Norway to Courland on 8 May 1945 and from there to Germany where it landed at Grossenbrode in Schleswig-Holstein. Can anybody shed some lights into these mysteries (for me at least). Thank you! Roger |

Re: Unit Code 4N+ --> (F)/22, (F)/120 or (F)/124?
Hi everyone,
This appears to be a tougher question than I thought. Does anybody have logbook pages of other 1./(F)124 crew members with flights in 1945? Such pages may confirm that 1./(F)124 indeed used 4N+ in 1945. It’s still a mistery to me and there is conflicting information in publications. Thanks, Roger |
