Anne Applebaum - Gulag. A history
Finally I have had a chance to read the book. Very well written, exhaustive and shocking. Large bibliography, footnotes and some official stats.
It is a must read (go to library if you do not want to buy it), especially before VE day and especially for any lovers of communism and Soviet Union. |

Re: Anne Applebaum - Gulag. A history
Yep, overall a decent book, but the author´s tone isn´t a most objective one. Further proof of bias is her background (at least the info dustjacket has made me suspicious). And she relies too much on secondary sources to my taste. Relatively little archival material is used.
