P-47 Thunderbolt "battlin beaut"
I am seeking information on a P-47 Thunderbolt (razorback) named "Battlin Beaut" which was with the USAAF in New Guinea 1943-1944. I have one photograph of the aircraft taken at Noemfoor and one at Port Moresby. Would like to know the squadron and pilot. Thanks

Re: P-47 Thunderbolt "battlin beaut"
John,
If at Noemfoor, then the picture must have been somewhere in the fall of 1944. Noemfoor Island was secured by American forces on 31 Aug 1944. Given the location of New Guinea, then 5th AF comes to mind. This AF had three P-47 groups: 35th, 58th and 348th FG and they all operated for a short while from one of the Noemfoor airfields.
