B-17F-75-DL with a chin turret ?
Lt. James R. Locher, bombardier of 401st BG stands in front of his B-17.
Duffy's Tavern is usually associated to a B-17F-75-DL (42-3507). Question: were some F-75 converted into G with chin turret or is there another explanation? Thanks in advance. Chris Last edited by CJE; 30th September 2015 at 10:44. |

Re: B-17F-75-DL with a chin turret ?
I would guess that some were converted due to their proximity to "G" production. 42-3563 was a Douglas built B-17G-5. Only 56 airframes away from 42-3507.
These links show -75's with a chin turret as well. http://www.pewteraircraft.com/STRUCK...7G/B%2017G.htm http://warbird-central.com/2012/03/4...-bacta-th-sac/ http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/foru...ictures/page-7 |

Re: B-17F-75-DL with a chin turret ?
Believe B-17F-70-DL were redesignated as B-17G-1-DL,
B-17F-75-DL were redesignated B-17G-5-DL. |
