Last week, on 24.11.2008, one of the last living german Luftwaffe-Gruppenkommandeur passed away, Major Ulrich von Meien, aged 95 years.

Re: Nightfighter-Kommandeur Maj. von Meien died

Having lost my own nightfighter father on Good Friday 10th April 2009, I feel the need to express an empathy with the family of the late Kommandeur Major Ulrich von Meien. I hold a particular respect and reverence for the courage these special airmen displayed - irrespective of the political barriers which may have separated them then, or whichever side they fought. From my perspective that war ended a lifetime ago. So, now reconciled and at peace, I salute Nightfighter-Kommandeur Maj. von Meien and extend my sincere condolences to the Von Meien family. Kind regards. Richard Oxby
