Spit serial X4260 (XT-D)603°Sqd.
Hello all
06/09/40 From many sources,P/O James Caister was shot down by von Bonin (I/JG54) after a fight off Manston (he lands in Guines-France!!!) There is a "hic":von Bonin did not make a claim this day (and no mission of the I/JG54) So,who actually shot Caister??....someone has an idea? michel |

Re: Spit serial X4260 (XT-D)603°Sqd.
From an article I wrote on RAF BofB POWs:
His last kill was a Messerschmitt 109 off Dunkirk on 3 September as three days after that, his Spitfire was damaged in combat after he had strayed too close to the French coast. He was then escorted to crash-land near Guines by Hauptmann Hubertus Von Bonin, Gruppen Kommandeur of I/JG 54 even if Von Bonin was not credited with the kill |

This is what they used to call (it seems to be a word that mankind forget the meaning nowadays) CHIVALRY.
My hats off to that gallant German Officer and Aviator. |

Well,ok
I am surprised why credit (sources) Caister to von Bonin if he has never claimed it? Indeed,it's singular and remarkable to point it out! michel |
