HJello ,

P/O Barckley Robert E 3 Sqdn escaped through the Comet Line in Belgium back to the UK in 1943. It seems that he came down xith his Tempest in february 43. Who can help me with additional information on this man and crash ?

2 June 1943, shot down by flak attacking a goods train north of Menin, landing (with conrols shot away) wheels-up in a field. Typhoon QO-D, EK227. He was back with 3 Squadron by 25 August 1943 and (unusually?) continued his tour on Typhoons and later Tempests (finishing in November 1944)

Re: P/O Barckley Robert E

Chris,

"Unusually" may mean that pilots who were helped by escape lines were excused from flying over enemy territory again in case they got shot down another time. If they got caught they might compromise their former escape aids.
Any other suggestions welcome.

Re: P/O Barckley Robert E

Hi Alain

Bob Barckley returned to 3 Squadron and shot down at least a dozen V-1 flying bombs in 1944, including the very first. All are recorded in my forthcoming 'Diver! Diver! Diver!' book to be published May 2008 (revised date).

Cheers
Brian
