Spitfire IV AB131 of 1401 Meteorological Flight
On 1 September 1942 a Spitfire IV, AB131, piloted by F/O C E Heggveit (RCAF) of 1401 Meteorological Flight, landed at the Luftwaffe night-fighter airfield of Sint-Truiden in Belgium. (The pilot should have been flying towards Aldergrove in Norther Ireland but set a reciprocal course.)
I believe the aircraft was subsequently flown by the Luftwaffe, and I wonder if anyone has any information about it or its subsequent demise. TIA Brian |
