Lt.Walter Spiess

Hi,

Lt.Walter Spiess took part in Polish Campaign 1939 with I(Z)/LG1 claiming two victories. Does anybody know in which Staffel he flew?

Regards

Robert

Robert,

Do you perhaps mean "Wilhelm Spies"? He is supposed to have claimed two in Poland with I.(Z)/LG 1. I do not know which Staffel.

Tom

Re: Lt.Walter Spiess

Hi,

Now I`m not sure but I have seen the photo of rudder of Wilhelm Spiess with 2 polish kills. OK, so it`s Wilhelm Spiess. Marius and you think it was not I(Z)/LG1? I/ZG1?
I have two others members of I(Z)/LG1 - Ofw.Kurt Hermann (2 kills in Poland) and Olt.Alfred Haesler (1 kill). Somebody knows more?

Regards

Robert

Re: Lt.Walter Spiess

Robert:

To clear the things:

There were two brothers: Walter and Wilhelm Spies. I beleive Walter was older.

Maj Walter Spies. I dont know where did he served at the outbreak of WW II. The only what I know:

Gruppenkommandeure III./JG1: 8.11.42 - 31.3.43
Gruppenkommandeure I./JG11: 01.04.43 - 06.43

12.12.1944 he was shot down and killed in Luftkampf with P-51 over Darmstadt, 28km S Frankfurth-am-Mein.

He was credited with 7 victories(3 on Ostfront).

Hptm. Wilhelm Spies:

07.09.39, 3/ZG1, Olt. Wilhelm Spies (1), 16.10, Radzymin, P.37 B, 16 EB.

Then he was promoted to Gr.Kdr. I./ZG 26, got RK-El (posthum.) and killed over Sukhinichi in jan.1942 by AAA.

Do You mean THIS rudder?
