War Diary of the General der Auklärungsflieger

Hello!

Nick Beale did it again. A completely new (at least to me) source is mentioned in his NAG 1 -article:

War Diary of the General der Auklärungsflieger

What kind of data does the mentioned KTB include? Is is available in CD or such "easier" format? From where? Price?
Is it a worthwhile source for Eastern Front reconnaissance units? My interest centers mainly around the Luftflotte 1 ones.

Thanking in advance,
Kari

Re: War Diary of the General der Auklärungsflieger

It's at BA-MA Freiburg (reference RL4/II/32) and all that remains is the period 1 January – 26 March 1945. A number of appendices are mentioned in the text but are no longer present.

There is a relatively short entry for each day but it is not a diary of operations, it mostly refers to moves of units, appointments of new commanders etc.

Hi Nick,
I have an interest in the Auklaerungsflieger from May and June 1940 and the movements of the units during the Battle of France.

Any suggestions or perhaps i can send you a P.M concerning this and the units i am interested in.

All the best, David.

Sorry David, as I said in my post, the surviving KTB is for part of 1945 only. I have nothing at all about the Battle of France, I'm afraid: 1944–45 is my thing.

Congratulations on your NAG 1 piece. Great detail!
As Kari said, the War Diary of the General der Auklärungsflieger is a very promising source. Did you come across any references to seaplane units?
I believe they were subordinated to this command from the middle of 1944.

The diary is only 12 pages long. But some of the appendicies does exist under other RL-numbers!!!
