Re: 2.jg53 Sicilia
Hi Remi,
From Brian Cull et al, 'Spitfires over Sicily',page 180. 'A German prisoner who fell into British hands at this time claimed that he was Uffz.Erich Scholl,a pilot of 2/JG53, and told his RAF interrogators that he had been shot down in combat with Spitfires near Messina shortly after 1215 on 4 August. He claimed to have accounted for two Spitfires before falling to a third. He also claimed that he had earlier served on the Eastern Front with JG22 [sic] where he had shot down 12 Russian aircraft before being transferred to Tunisia, where he claimed two P-38s and a Spitfire.Four more Spitfires and a P-38 were allegedly added to his tally over Sicily before he was shot down. His story was apparently a complete fabrication and his true identity remains unknown;he may not even have been a pilot.' Hope this is of use, Regards,Mark. |

Re: 2.jg53 Sicilia
Many thks Mark,
I guessed some story of this kind, it's a bit strange that the english interrogetator accepted the whole story without any comments , they are very clever generally, remi |

Re: 2.jg53 Sicilia
Since I imagine Luftwaffe types, especially aircrew, received better treatment than others, I guess you can't blame him for trying to go for the gold.

Re: 2.jg53 Sicilia
It looks strange that the brits, hv "swallow" this story...norm pilots wear very specific uniform/flying suit, further at that time the english know sometimes more than the real pilots...
