Air battle, Norway area, 21/06/1940

Hello all,

I've a few questions regarding this:

'RAF 204 Sqdn on 21st June, Sqdn Ldr Thomas in [Sunderland] F/204 N9046 and Flt Lt. Phillips in [Sunderland] A/204 N9028 were on shadowing duty escorted by [254 Squadron] Blenheims from Sumburgh. Unfortunately the Blenheims peeled off to attack a Do 18 and then left for Base, leaving the Sunderland's on their own.

Later on Me109's attacked and after one went down into the sea in flames A/204 returned to Base with holed fuel tanks and the Rear Turret out of action.'

(from
"Famous Maritime Squadrons of the RAF" by Halley)

I'm researching the death of RAF Sergeant P.F. Clarke from 254 Sqdn who was killed on this day. Strangely enough no hard evidence apart from the CWGC registration seems to exist to link him with this battle.

So I was wondering if someone can identify the Do 18 (which might be a He 115; contradicting sources) and or the Me 109 which was claimed by Sunderland A/204

Regards,

Bart

Hello Robert,

As far as I know no Sunderlands were lost that day.
What kind of plane did Olt. Schopper fly in?

Regards,

Bart
