Czech LA-5s shot down by US P-51s 1944

Hi guys

I have read that at least four LA-5s of the 1st Czech Fighter Regiment were shot down by USAAF P-51s in late 1944. Can anyone provide details please?

Cheers
Brian

Hi

Brian,

The commander of the Czechoslovak unit, František Fajtl DFC mentioned the story in his remembrances as well.

Hi Peter - where can I obtain a copy of your Flight Journal? Is it in English?

Hi Csaba - yes, but I still need Eastern Front incidents from 1941-42 period for the first volume.

Cheers
Brian

I like Peter´s artical very much.
And German photo of P-51 wreck on occupied Slovak Uprising airfield was impressive.

Please correct me if I am wrong. The P-51 vs. La-5 incident was explained shortly after, however the American officer claimed a "Fw 190" anyway and it was duly confirmed as only victory of his career. Am I right, or my memory is getting old?

Yes I think that further shooting and lifetaking actions were stopped by cool behavior of Czechoslovak pilots, who showed red stars on their planes t the Americans. However FW190 was claimed...

Not at all.
Czechoslovak pilots were stationed at Zolna airfield...few KM from Zvolen, but still some distance to walk..and fighter cover for evacuation missions did not reach the ground...US Mustangs just buzzed over the Tri Duby airfield few times but did not land...
