very specific information needed german nightfigher pilot Kurt Matzak
Dear all,
I'm in touch with a relative of a downed Lancaster that was presumably shot down by a certain Kurt Matzak. Therefore I was wondering if anyone has any information about him. First of all, can it be confirmed that he claimed Lancaster DV401 on the night 2/3 January 1944. Second, does anyone know which airplane he flew. Probaby a 110 from NJG1 based at Leeuwarden, but could the code letters be found out? Third, a picture would be very interesting. Lastly, does anyone know what happened to him? All I can find online is that there are 18 victories to his name. I know this sounds very much like a demands list, but I'm trying to be specific and brief. Any information anyone might have would be extremely welcome. |

Re: very specific information needed german nightfigher pilot Kurt Matzak
Lancaster DV401 was shot down near Stavoren over de Zuiderzee, nowhere near Quakenbrück. It also crashed at 1.30, 19 minutes after Matzak took off. Is then likely that it was Heinz Vinke?
