Wekusta 1 Ob.d.L
Does anyone know where I might obtain a photograph of any/all of the following: Oblt. Karl Rapp, Uffz Alfred Schulz, Fw. Otto Kühle, ObRegRat Otto Krug? They were the crew of Ju88D-1 D7+FH, which crashed into the North Sea after being shot down by two Beaufighters of No.604 Sqdn on 23 August 1943. Any help appreciated. Re: Wekusta 1 Ob.d.L
We have nothing about these fellows in our officer database but Kracker has the following:
Rapp, Karl Oblt Wekusta 1 (Weather Reconnaissance) Ju 88D-1 Werk # 430804 "D7 + FH" (lost) Observer Operational Clasp MIA 23 August, 1943 after aerial combat with Beaufighters of RAF No. 604 Sq., 130 miles northeast of the river Tees. Repeated attacks caused the port engine and wing to become engulfed in flames and Rapp attempted to ditch in the North Sea. The AC hit water and bounced once and then exploded and sank in seconds. Remaining crew (all MIA): Reg.Rat Otto Krug, Observer, Uffz Alfred Schulz, wireless operator and Fw Otto Kühle, mechanic. Per "Air War over Denmark, Kühle's grave is the only known grave, as he washed ashore on the Danish northwest coast on 7 October, 1943, and was buried in the Frederikshavn Cemetery on 14 October, 1943. |

Re: Wekusta 1 Ob.d.L
Doug,
Thanks for replying. I was aware of most of the content (in fact, Kracker might well have got it from my book LUFTWAFFE LOSSES OVER NORTHUMBERLAND & DURHAM [Leo Cooper, 2002]) but the fate of Kühle was new to me. Another piece of the puzzle drops into place.. BN (website www.billnorman.co.uk) |

Thanks, Jeremy. I do have the book but there are no relevant pictures in it. BN (website: www.billnorman.co.uk)
