Info. requested on Ju-88's of 3.(F) Aufklärungsgruppe 122

Dear Colleagues,

I'm hoping that some of you may be able to help me with further information on the following Ju-88's of 3.(F) Aufklärungsgruppe 122.

From my own research I believe I know the fate of these two aircraft and from LW Loss Report (microfilm roll #6) I also have the following information:

Ju 88A-5 WNr 0649 (or 5649?) of 3.(F) Aufklärungsgruppe 122
Uffz. Hans Schorn and crew MIA 25.7.42

Ju 88D-1 WNr 1515 of 3.(F) Aufklärungsgruppe 122
Oblt. Heinrich Henze, (B), Uffz. Rudolf Pilz, (F) and two other crew lost MIA 29.7.42

I'm hoping for answers to the following questions:

1. The correct WNr for the Ju 88A-5 lost on 25.7.42.
2. Any further names/details of the missing crewmen.
3. Does the German equivalent of an ORB exist for this unit? If so where/how can I obtain a copy of it?
4. What camouflage scheme was used on 3.(F) Aufklärungsgruppe 122 Ju-88's during July 1942?
5. Does anyone have any photos of these airframes? (Although it's a needle in a haystack hope - you never know unless you ask!)

Thank you all in advance/anticipation for your help.

Paul

Hi Paul,

As you know both Ju 88s were s/d by pairs of the 137 Sqn. They should have standard camouflage RLM 70/71/65. WNr. 1515 had code F6+EL and the letter "E" was either solid yellow or outlined in that colour.

Regards,
Michal

Re: Info. requested on Ju-88's of 3.(F) Aufklärungsgruppe 122

Thanks Michal - yes they were shot down by 137 Squadron - hence my interest.

Ed - was it usual for the Ju 88A-5 to have a crew of four? I thought the A series carried a crew of three. (PS I'm a complete newbie w.r.t. the Ju-88 and on a steep learning curve!)

Michal and Ed thank you both very much for your additional information.

Does anyone know the names of the other two crew from Ju 88D-1 WNr 1515?

Hi;

Normal Ju 88 A-1, A-5, A-4 series the operational crew was four (F, B, BF and BS - except trainers of two to four), only three crew on C-series (Zerstörers) and some special Recce (without Bola Gunner), some transfer flights had five (with ´Crew Chief´) and G-series also four - for more eys seeing at Night!

1515 Ju 88 D-1 F6+EL 3.(F)/122 (Luftflotte 3)
OPS (F) missing (100%) unk location 29.07.1942 (F Uffz. Rudolf Pilz missing/rep killed washed-a-shore in losses f/08.10.42, B Oblt. Heinrich Henze, BF Uffz. Ernst Schulte and BS Ofw. Richard Lossack missing)

If you look on LEMB, I have posted a response about the 3/33 crew on 25 Jul 42
