Polish pilot : Lt. Robert JANOTA

Hello,

Lt. Robert Janota was part of the GC I/145, a polish fighter group which fought in France in 1940.

I think Lt. Janota was captured by the Germans in June 1940. If this info is right, I would like to know the circumstances of his capture

Thanks in advance

Pierre

Re: Polish pilot : Lt. Robert JANOTA

Janota served with GC I/145, then as a commander of ECD Tours, and then ECD Angers. On 18 June they flew to Bordeaux and on 19 June, together with ground personnel boarded a Czechoslovak ship. For some reason Janota and groundcrew Gerard Zygmunt did not manage to the harbour. Janota presumably was not taken PoW, until captured by Italians during an escape attempt. Escaping again he was recaptured and finally found his way to Colditz. Transferred to yet another camp, he escaped in 1944 and joined communistic Polish Air Force, only to be killed in training on 22 April 1944.

Just one more note. ECD Tours and ECD Angers were the same unit but the name changed officially, when the unit transferred to another base.
