Stammkennzeichen

Hello,

I wonder if it´s possible to track the factory code for a specific Messerschmitt Bf109E-3? The individual I´m thinking of is Werkenummer 0820 of 4/JG77. Pilot was Uffz Ludwig Fröba.

TIA

Re: Stammkennzeichen

Best I can do so far, I found a couple of pics of 109E's that start with "BY + ?? & RL + ??". I know some of the early Bf 109's had "D-xxxx", not really sure how that worked.

I found this on the Preserved Axis Aircraft, not sure how accurate it is, http://www.preservedaxisaircraft.com/
Bf 109E-3 Wnr. 790 ( a few numbers off from 820 ) AJ+YM, used in Condor Legion, now in Duetsches Museum Munich.

I found these pics in "The Luftwaffe In Sweden 1939-1945, Bo Widfeldt.

Regards,
Mike

Re: Stammkennzeichen

Thanks a lot Mike. May I ask however, why you have two suggestions? Is this information still available somewhere or was it lost during the war?

I guess I ought to explain why I find this information interesting? I am building the Tamiya B109E-3 and I would like to model Fröba´s machine. I once saw a picture of "White 1" of JG77 where the factory code "OK" has been roughly oversprayed under the number 1. I think it would be cool to use the same effect on my White 3.

BTW, thanks for the picures. I also got a book by Bo Widfeldt/Roph Wegmann which covers all foreign aircraft that landed in Sweden during the war. It shows only your first picture of White 3 though.

TIA

Re: Stammkennzeichen

All I did was look at any 109E info. I could find and see what codes they carried. I'm not sure how many thousands of E's were built. Just an educated guess.

In this pic there are early 109E's with BY+xx, D-xxxx and one Swiss J-388.

As I find more pics I will update this post on possible codes. There are thousands of possibilities.

SE+xx, M or NG=xx, NL+xx, GA+xx, PL+xx, RL+xx, ER+xx, DD+xx, DB+xx, YC+xx, NL+XX, KD+xx, CO or U+xx, CT+xx.

P.S. I may have edited my first post after you first read it.

Regards,
Mike

Hello Revi,

BY+xx and RL+xx markings wasn't Stammkennzeichen but Überführungskennzeichen (transfer markings), BY for Mtt. Regensburg and RL for Erla Leipzig. Maybe the Stammkennzeichen of W.Nr. 820 was SG + GC but I'm not sure.

Best wishes

Re: Stammkennzeichen

Hi rasmussen

In the LEMB list I have 4 siebel 204 surrouding it. So I think this
belongs to a 204.

Re: Stammkennzeichen

Looking closer at the pictures that Mike kindly provided , I cannot see any Stammkennzeichen? This might have to do with the quality of the picture but it´s not clear. There are however other interesting information IMHO. For instance I read somewhere that the fin might have a yellow tip but, I cannot see that on that last picture. What is your opinion?
