Re: Photos 8-12
Would someone please tell the story of those III/ZG 26 Bf109s. Perhaps D models in a single green top color.
Thanks Ed for the continued hard work, especially for waiting for those up-loads from ebay. Also one for Mr. Vasco.

Re: Photos 8-12
That is the 'B' variant that was the test bed for the 30 mm Kanone, MG 101. It reached production as the C-6, of which only 12 were built.

Re: Photos 8-12
BTW, the 3rd Misc. is a rather rare Arado Ar 65:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=350088283017 This Fw 56 carries a rather unusal camouflage (possibly RLM 02 top and RLM 65 bottom): http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=160271585623 The unusual upper/lower camouflage demarcation line on the He 45 in the last photo group is also remarkable. |

Re: Photos 8-12
Hi Guys
Perhaps one for John to answer as well. http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=150281942086 Having few B models to look at, was it common for the 110 of the early ZG to carry fighter like markings such as this red(?) 2 and III Gruppe band? Cheers Stig |

Re: Photos 8-12
Stig,
I thought that might come up. I've been in discussion with another member of this forum, and the general conclusion seems to be that the marking was a transitional one when III./ZG 26 moved from Bf 109s with the usual fighter markings (number+Gruppe sign) to Bf 110s with the unit four character code. So, we think a 109-type of marking has been applied prior to this Bf 110 receiving the 3U+?? code. That appears to be the only logical explanation... but it may be wrong. If I'd had that photo years ago I could have asked Ernst Matthes... By the way, it is a 'C-1', not a 'B'. John V.

Re: Photos 8-12
Thanks John
In your opinion, was this a standard practice, ie all ZG used these transitional markings before they decided that also the ZG were to follow the four letter/digit code system? Also yes even I noticed that it was a C-model, but I got carried away by the photo from Modeldad...., a typical case of me being ![]() Cheers Stig |
