STUKA ATTACK DOVER 29TH JULY 1940

I'm looking for confirmation regarding the stuka attack made against Dover on 29th July 1940.

II./St.G 1 attacked the town. Could someone just confirm for me that the 6th Staffel of this Gruppe participated.

The 48 Stukas that took part were attacked by Mk 1 Hurricanes from 41 and 501 Squadron.
Does anyone have the details of the Stukas that were lost, including code numbers and crew members. How many were actually shot down during this raid as I have conflicting information, some say 3, others 4.

Any help would be, as always, greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

David.

Re: STUKA ATTACK DOVER 29TH JULY 1940

Bit of a confusing day. Whilst III/StG 2 attacked Portland that evening, I have Stukas dropping 22 500 kg, 22 250 kg and 176 50 k bombs on ships in Dover Harbour at 0840 hrs, it would appear that 11/LG 1, II/StG 1 were involved. The Germans reported losing 3 Stukas-2 from LG 1 (crews killed I believe) and one from StG 1(crew rescued?). 2 more Stukas were damaged. I am afraid that I do not have crew details (apart from Lt Furnwagner & Oblt Kothe from LG 1) an dthe QMG's Returns did not record codes of Wk Nrs at this early stage of the war.

Re: STUKA ATTACK DOVER 29TH JULY 1940

Hi,

I have 24 Ju 87 from the IV(St)/LG1 and 21 Ju 87 from the II/StG1.
The crews: 11(St)/LG1 Lt.Josef Fuernweger (MIA) with Uffz.Fritz Wierse (MIA) and Olt.Erich Kothe (KIA) with Uffz.Waldemar Preuss (MIA).
One Ju 87 from the II/StG1 was damaged in 30%, one crash-landed in Kanal (the crew was rescued) and one crash-landed in France.

Regards

Robert

Re: STUKA ATTACK DOVER 29TH JULY 1940

With regards to this attack, does anyone have the names of the crews from II./St.G1 that were either shot down or damaged during the battle.

Does anyone know where to look for this information?

Many thanks,
David.
