Uffz. Albrecht Licht - JG54

Greetings,

I recently purchased the book Die ritterkreuztrager der Luftwaffe - band 1 Jagdflieger and have been informed by the seller that the previous owner was Uffz. Albrecht Licht, JG 54 pilot.

This is all the info. I have at this point and am trying to get a more complete picture of this pilot. Any additional information will be appreciated.

Hi Libbe,

Albrecht Licht served with II./J.G. 54 in 1944 and 1945. He flew as the wingman of Ritterkreuzträger Lt. Hermann Schleinhege on a number of occasions. He claimed his first aerial victory on a sweep south-east of Libau in Kurland on 9 October 1944. He was injured in a take-off accident at Libau on 22 December 1944. In 1945 he flew in a Schwarm with Norbert Hannig, Kohler and Meschkat in II./J.G. 54. From memory there is a photo of this Schwarm in Norbert Hannig's book published in 2006. He survived the war and was alive a couple of years ago.

More information about him will appear in a book I'm working on about the air war over Kurland in 1944/1945.

Hi marsyao,

I'm glad to hear that you liked Morten and my Focke-Wulf 190 in North Africa book.

The Kurland book should be finished next year some time, although of course I can't guarantee that. We've done a lot of research for it, and are fortunate to be in contact with quite a few J.G. 54 veterans. At the moment we have written 60,000 words, but that is only the German side of the story. A Russian researcher is going to contribute information from the Soviet side, to ensure that the full story is told.

At the moment the plan is that Morten and I will finish our Focke-Wulf 190 over the Mediterranean, May - September 1943 book first, and the Kurland book second.

Hi guys,

I can't provide an exact publication date, but I can let you know our plans.

The first volume we intend to have published is: The Focke-Wulf 190 in the Mediterranean, Volume I: 14 May 1943 - 2 September 1943

Then we hope to publish: The Focke-Wulf 190 in the Mediterranean Volume II: 3 September 1943 - 21 January 1944

We've got a very large amount of sources for these books: letters, logbooks, diaries, interviews, photographs, documents etc. etc. These two books are relatively complete already, but we intend to make them as comprehensive as possible, so there is still much work to do.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, Morten and I have quite a few other book projects we hope to complete in the next few years, the first of which will be Air War Courland.

Morten and I have done no writing in the last two years, and have instead focussed on contacting German and American veteran pilots. But when I finish my Ph.D. thesis, which will be in the next week or two, I'll be working hard on completing some of our books. We hope to publish some of these books next year, but of course that can't be guaranteed!

Thanks for expressing interest in our work. We hope our future books will be as well received as The Focke-Wulf 190 in North Africa.
