Description for Dora: Original WW2 G.I. photo taken at Halle Germany of a G.I. sitting in the cockpit of Fw 190 D-9 “Black 3” W. Nr. 601090 of II./JG 6. Photo measures 4” X 2.5”, excellent condition.

Description for K-4: Original WW 2 G.I. photo taken at Furth Germany of various Bf 109 fuselages including a Bf 109 K-4 in the left foreground. In the background is a G-6 W. Nr. 440753, in the right foreground is a 109 fuselage coded 5F “Yellow 14”. Photo measures 3.75” X 2.75”, excellent condition.

If I am not wrong, the 109 photo was published in one of the late Jagdwaffe books.

Peter,

Thanks so much for your helping hand!

Bavgan and Weisner,
I'm without my reference library for the Fw 190 D, so, sorry, I can't add anything about the D-9 pic.

As for the K-4 pic, it is already published în Carl Hildebrant's Broken Eagles 3: Bf 109 G/K part II, p. 16, 1988. Thanks to F19Gladiator, you can enjoy a higher resolution scan of this very same photo in the following LEMB thread, post #32:

Location of Fürth is correct.
Cheers

Marc

Re: Dora 9 and K-4 photos on Ebay

Hi Kevin,

I have copies of both of these photos which I picked up several years ago in an album that I purchased and can confirm from what is written beside the photos that they were taken at Halle and Fürth. The album also includes a second photo of the D-9.

Cheers

Dave

Re: Dora 9 and K-4 photos on Ebay

The photograph appears in p.31, "Augsburg´s Last Eagles" by Brett Green, too. In excellent quality. In JaPo´s "K-4 camouflage and marking" there´s a view from the other direction.

I distrust the caption "Fürth" or "Fuerth" (near Nuremberg) because the style of the buildings does not fit at all.

There´s also a village "Furth (im Wald)" without the -ue- which is in the vicinity of Cham. This puts us not far from the Messerschmitt 109 production site Cham-Micheldorf and in the middle of Messerschmitt´s dispersed secret production net for the 109 in North-Eastern Bavaria. The depicted 109s seem to be prepared for recycling in a "Zerlegebetrieb".
And - the building style would better fit to "Furth im Wald"

Regards

Roland

Re: Dora 9 II/JG6 WNr. 601090

Photo is published in Crandals book - the Focke Wulf Fw 190 Dora Volume I. IIRC the WNr. was subject of conjecture, but with strong evidence. As I'm at work now, I cannot look in the book to mention the page number.
