Bf 109 G-6 166223 and 166224 photos!
Hi,
I just came across a photo on ebay that looked very familiar. After some search I found its sister ship that is well known already. What is interesting is: - The painted number on the rudder. Looks like a large (yellow?) 93 for 166224 and 95 (?) for 166223. Is this a factory ID-number? Or did these two 109 belong to the same unit? But then, why is one missing the Gruppe bar and aircraft no.? - The camouflage is remarkably similar: look e.g. at the camouflage spots in front of the Balkenkreuz. Is anything about 166223 known? For what it's worth they were both G-6s manufactured by Regensburg in August 1944, according to Peter Schmoll in "Die Messerschmitt-Werke." So, they were out the door and into action really quickly. They were in the batch 166 157 through 166 260.

Some from this batch went to Rumania. The closest to this pair of 'Gustavs' is 166217.

With the WNr.166 223 did you mean Sachsenberg's Bf 109? I have the WNr.166233 as his Bf 109 G-6 which he bellylanded on the 23. August 1944, after air combat with 4 Mustangs. Gruss, Tomi |
