12/6/1942 Kings Lynn Eagle Pub Bombing

I am currently researching the events of 12th June 1942 and the death of my Great Uncle, Sergeant Albert Joseph Young W.Op/AG RAF.

Albert was a member of 114 Squadron, based at West Raynham and was killed in a Luftwaffe Bombing Raid on Kings Lynn on 12th June 1942. He was celebrating a colleagues birthday when the pub that he was in (The Eagle) was bombed. He and 41 others were killed.

I am trying to find out some more information on the attack. I have a great deal of information from his and his colleagues perspective, but not much from the side of the Luftwaffe, in particular the actual target of the mission. I was wondering if any Luftwaffe Records from the period existed?

I believe the attack was conducted by a Kampfgeschwader 2; Dornier 17 or 217E.

Can anyone help? Many Thanks

Ulf Balke: Der Luftkrieg in Europa (pt2) states 17 bombers took part in anti-shipping operation in the area of The Wash. He goes on to state that the operation was without success - which suggests that Kings' Lynn was an alternative

The late Ray Wilson, who was Divisional Librarian for West Norfolk, covered the incident in some detail in his book "Red Alert Lynn". When I can lay my hands on my copy I will send you the details of publisher, etc,. Or you can PM me for further details.
