Hello!
This plane crashed in the afternoon. 4 of the 5 crewmembers jumped out, pilot stayed in the plane and was shot in the firefight with British soldiers.

Hi ,

Seems that the one who died was buried at the local cemetery?

Alain,

Latest research suggests that this aircraft could be as follows:

9./KG1 Heinkel He111. Shot down by P/O Simpson of No. 229 Squadron during sortie to Boulogne and believed crashed at Rue du Blanc Ballot in Luingne, 8.00 p.m. BF Uffz Kurt Roßhirt killed. BM Obergefr Otto Saueressig captured wounded. FF Oberlt Botho Staege, BO Gefr Hans-Paul Marx, and BS Gefr Karl-Heinz von Dahlen captured unhurt. Aircraft V4+IT a 100% write-off. (EOE analysis)
Kurt Roßhirt reportedly resisted capture and was killed in an exchange of fire with British troops.

This is currently under further investigation (photo comparisons) but, at this stage, it looks promising.

Re: May 21,1940,He-111 crash at Luingne, Belgium

Hello,

Yes, the EOE Working Group has identified a good photo of what we think of this a/c. Since our candidate a/c crashed in front of some houses in a village street, Peter Taghon and Arnaud Gillet have offered to go to the site in Belgium and compare the photo against the houses there. If it fits, we have an ID. We'll await their judgement about this one. If anyone out there has other photos of this crash, I would appreciate hearing about it.

Regards,
