Capitano Giuseppe Zucconi

Was Cap Giuseppe Zucconi C/O 257ª Sqd AS or 254ª Sqd AS during early 43. Was he still in command of either unit during the Sicilian invasion period.

Best Regards

Gianandrea Bussi will become famous soon enough
Re: Capitano Giuseppe Zucconi

I only info I've found is that he was commander of 257a sq. of the 105° Gruppo at the date of 8 august 1943. I don't know when he took command of the unit.

ciao

Gianandrea

Gianandrea

Just out of curiosity I notice you state 105 Gruppo in your answer. Dunning in his Courage Alone says 257 Sq belonged to 108 Gruppo during its whole existance between 1940-43, while 254 Sq was with 105 Gruppo during the same period. Any comments to that?

Cheers
Stig

Re: Capitano Giuseppe Zucconi

Hi Stig,

The reason I asked the question in the first place was I have Zucconi as C/O 257ª Sqd/108° Gruppo/36° Stormo AS as of Jan43 and C/O 254ª Sqd/105° Gruppo Aut AS as of Jan43. Your observation further complicates the matter.

I believe 36° Stormo AS disbanded in Jul43 but I'm not sure if 108° Gruppo AS also disbanded.

Best Regards

Re: Capitano Giuseppe Zucconi

Evening Andy

Not sure what you mean with complicating. I rather feel my question rather tallies with your own details. 257 Sq belonged to 108 Gruppo and 254 Sq belonged to 105 Gruppo.

I think Gianandrea either has made an error or has an ace up his sleeve

Cheers
Stig

Re: Capitano Giuseppe Zucconi

Hi Stig,

I meant no disrespect, merely your observation about Gianandrea's reply that Zucconi was C/O 257ª Sqd/105° Gruppo AS as of 08Aug43 doesn't tally if 257ª Sqd belonged to 108° Gruppo AS, unless 257ª Sqd transferred to 105° Gruppo AS when 36° Stormo AS disbanded in Jul43.

Cheers

Holy smoke Andy

I sure did not take your comments as a disrespect, never think that.
Most of us on this site simply wants to get to the bottom of things, and so do I, so let's wait and see what Gianandrea has up his sleeve...

Cheers
Stig

Re: Capitano Giuseppe Zucconi

It's my fault: 257a Sq. was part of 108° Gruppo; 105° Gruppo was formed by 254a and 255a sq.
36° Stormo and 109° Gruppo disbanded on 15 july 1943.
105° disbanded in may-june 1943.

Best regards

Gianandrea
