To Emden 20/21st January 1942 "Serial Range Z8328 - Z8377. 50 Wellington Mk.11. Part of a batch of 450 Wellington Mk.1C/11/V111. Z8570 experimentally fitted by Rolls-Royce with a Rover-built W2B 'booster unit' (Whittle Jet Engine). Z8416 for Vickers 'S' Gun tests. Airborne 1834 20Jan42 from Binbrook. Shot down by a night-fighter (Oblt Ludwig Becker, 6./NJG2) and crashed 2100 on, or very close to the Dutch Friesian island of Terschelling. Those killed are buried on the island in Westerschelling General Cemetery. F/L W.H.Thallon PoW Sgt E.J.R.Fowler KIA P/O P.R.Ross RNZAF PoW F/S F.W.Walker PoW F/S G.H.Groves RCAF PoW Sgt W.Rutherford KIA Oblt Ludwig Becker submitted two further claims, timed at 2107 and 2137, which would account for the loss of Z1110, and Z1207. F/S G.H.Groves was interned in Camps 8B/344/L3, PoW No.24791. P/O P/R.Ross in Camps 6B/21B/L3, PoW No.1437 with F/L W.H.Thallon, PoW No.1441. F/S F.W.Walker in Camps 7A/L6/L4, Pow No.90097.
