FW 200 lost 11 May 44 over UGS-40
Hello,
I've read that a Fw 200 was shot down while attacking convoy UGS-40 on 11 May 1944. Can anyone confirm this and provide details regarding this aircraft (e.g., crew, identification code, wk.nr., unit)? Thanks MB |

Re: FW 200 lost 11 May 44 over UGS-40
Fw 200 C5 0203 of StabIII/40 crashed at Kunersdorf this day on a non-operational flight , the pilot Oblt Gunther Seide was killed and Bm Uffz. Helmut Jahn badly injured. Oblt Seide was the pilot of the 9/40 Condor which belly-landed in Spain on 13-8-43, see Chris Goss' Sea Eagles vol 2. For the 11-5-44 Sea Eagles mentions the loss of several Ju88's attacking a convoy of the Spanish coast but no Condors

Re: FW 200 lost 11 May 44 over UGS-40
Thanks, Brian,
I looked at Sea Eagles as well. Nothing there. This whole episode is confusing. There is an eyewitness report of a Fw 200 guiding two Hs 293 missiles against ships in convoy UGS-40 on 11 May 1944. Neither missile hit. Thiis is reported in the after-action report of the convoy escort commander. Morison makes the same statement, most likely based on the same after-actionr report. That after-action report also says that this same Fw 200 was shot down. I'm trying to determine the validity of this report. Marty |
