My file notes that Fw Karl Bernhardt (F) and Uffz Willi Klaas (Bf) were both KIA in Bf 110C-5 WNr 2235, 4U+XK during a non-operational flight....?

perhaps my file is wrong?

Hi Adam

Maybe not!! May 1940 is still an untouched jungle in some of his sides, each information show us how to get out!! But it’s not for tomorrow.
The only problem is that none of them is said killed the 12th maybe another Klaas or later , because this one seems to be “only” wounded ! Also the nonop flights where pretty rare the 12th May 1940 .
The date is also the 12th in your notes?
Regards
Phil

Re: 2. (F) / 123 Do17Z, May 12,1940,Belgium.

This is what I have:

May 11, 1940:
Do-17P 4U+HK of 2.(F)/123 landed at SCHINNEN (gehucht ‘t ROOTH, Limburg, NL).
Lt Heinz BROSCH, Fw Hermann LAYHER en Fw STEINER wounded.
Probably shot down by Moranes of GC II/2 during a morning patrol.

Do-17P 4U+?K of 2.(F)/123 landed at BEEK (Krawinkel, Limburg, NL)
Pilot probably Olt Hans Weicksel.

The crew name is not 100%, since the name of Oblt Weicksel is mentioned for all kind of different losses and locations.

2.(F)/123 reports that a crew (Oblt Dietrich von Scheffler, Obfw Felgenhauer, Uffz Wili Klaas) was heavily attacked over Bruxelles-Namur, but although seriously hit by up to 150 bullets, the machine did not crash and came back to base.

Any further details would be welcome!

Pieter

Re: 2. (F) / 123 Do17Z, May 12,1940,Belgium.

Just something disturbing is the fact that the 4U+EK had made a belly landing near Fosse-la-Ville the 12th WNr-147 2(F)./123 also shot down by the GC II/2 with the crew

Uffz Bournot Heinz (POW)-- Oblt Weiksel Hans (WND)---Obgfr Richter Herbert (POW)

If Weiksel was in this A/C he was not probably in the one of Beek , as you correctly said he was mentioned quite often in several crash .
If I remember well there is a picture of the A/C in Rosh’s book and I must have some too

Phil

Hi,

My sincere apologies gentlemen, when checking for the requested loss I somehow looked at the wrong date. The info supplied above is from a loss on 25 Feb 1941.

Was a very late night last nite!

regards

Adam

@Flupke,
I guess you were talking about that air crash in 1940 ..
These are pictures exhumed from one war album of my father-in-law.
We are living very close to the crash location.
A crash hunter gave me the following information which looks the same as yours:

Do-17 P-1 crashed at 6 :20
WNr-147
4U+EK
Pilot Uffz Bournot Heinz (POW)
Crew Oblt Weiksel Hans (WND)---Obgfr Richter Herbert (POW)
Supposed shot down by GC II/2 Cpt de Calonne, Lt de Rohan-Chabot, Sgt Britenstein, A/C Dorcy, S/Lt Milhiet et Sgt Delisle

Regards
Yves

Yves, Pieter H. et al,

Yves, thanks for posting three new photos of 4U+EK, a well-known crash.

Has anyone located photos of 4U+HK and the second 2 Staffel crash in Holland on 11.5.40? I'm most interested in locating any photos of these crashes.

Thanx,
