Me 109 question

Hello,

under

http://kurfurst.org/

in Internet you can find various Me 109 test reports. In particular, under

.../Performance_tests/109G_Leistungszusammenstellung/Leistungszusammenstellung109G.html

there is a performance compilation of the effects on the Me 109 G of various modifications. After the performance tables a description of the Grundausführung Me 109 G-1 is added (probably of the test aircraft), and on Blatt 3 (sheet 3) there is a paragraph

Lichtbilder (photos): Abweichungen von der Ausführung G-1 (deviations from the variant G-1): ... Randkappen wurden vergrößert (wing tips were extended).

Unfortunately the photos are not present. Is there anybody who knows something about those extended wing tips? If it were about an early F instead of a G, I would think the document is referring to the standard rounded wing tip because originally the F was designed with wing tips similar to those of the E, but since the G had the rounded tips from the very beginning, the report must be referring to something else.
It would also be interesting to know why that test aircraft was fitted with extended wing tips and why these were not adopted for production.

Regards,
klemchen

Re: Me 109 question

As I recall, the extended wingtips referred to the tips that eventually became standard on the 109F/G; because, as you said, the early 109F prototypes had the 109E wingtips.

Re: Me 109 question

As George said.

The photos in the report are those of V24 VK+AB, fitted with the early F-series wingtip desing.

Re: Me 109 question

Hello,

thank you very much for your answers. However, I must confess that I am not convinced because the heading is "deviations from G-1" and, as far as I know, no G-1 ever had E-like wing tips.

klemchen

Re: Me 109 question

Well, they list the deviations of V24 as shown in the photos with respect the G-series.

V24 was fitted with sort wings, and because of that it's a "deviation" from a serie G-1.

Clear now?

Re: Me 109 question

Hi,

thank you, now I see. I had not seen the photos, and I did not realize that "deviations ..." referred to the photos and not to the test aircraft. Das muss einem Dummen doch gesagt werden!

klemchen
