Re: He115s/Do18s 1939
8.11.1939
The 1./906 machine I have listed as S4+XL. (Taken from the KTB). I don't know whether the WNr is 1997 or 1927. The machine was part of a reconnaissance operation from Qu5695 to 5365. It suffered from technical difficulties with the engines and was forced down 30 miles SW of Libau. The crew were interned but repatriated to Germany from Lettland on 14.5.40 The crew was: Uffz Kohler (F) Lt.z.S Kopp (B) Fhr Obgfr Oppitz (Hils.B) Fw Gebhardt (Bm) 6.12.1939 Do 18 8L+FK (WNr 811) of 2./906 attacked in error by a Bf 110 of I./ZG 76 and force landed. Damage was assessed at 40%. This was from 40 - 50 small calibre bullet holes, and 10 or 11 larger holes (probably from canon fire). The front engine was also damaged and was shut down, the pilot executing a safe landing at sea. The aircraft was towed to Borkum by "Hans Rolshoven". The crew included: Fw Pausinger (F) Lt.z.S Erwin Christopherson (B) Ofw Amann (Hils.B) Uffz Beigel (Bm) Neither of these two incidents resulted in any injuries That is all I can help with at the moment but will check further when I get home |

Re: He115s/Do18s 1939
The 3/506 He 115 crashed at 0330 hours 6 Dec 1939 in the breakers on Sheringham West Beach, Norfolk. A/c Werk-Nr. was 2081. Markings found on wreckage reported as "+ BB" although they should have been S4 + BL.
Crew: Oblt z S Wolfgang Wodtke Ofw Emil Rodel Ofw Karl Ullmann Wodtke and Ullman originally buried Sheringham; exhumed and transferred to Cannock Chase 22 Jan 1963. Rodel buried Gt Bircham, Norfolk, still there. Cause of crash still obscure; Germans noted "Possible icing or thunderstorm". BC |

Hi Bob
Thanks for that. Good to hear from you. Are you still interested in my proposal (not marriage!)? Cheers Brian |

Re: He115s/Do18s 1939
I suppose you are talking about Do.18 which was lost on 7 IX. If it is the case then it was:
Do.18D-3 8L+WK W.Nr. 833 which was lost in Hörnum when overturned during a night landing (1 KIA & 1 MIA & 2 WIA) Hope it helps, Andrzej
