Robert James Dixon (14th PRS / 7th PRG ) loss over Merseburg?
Hi,
I am trying to discover the DATE and the serial number of the plane flown by Captain Robert James Dixon over Merseburg. Was it Spitfire PRXI, serial number PL866 lost on 14th February 1945? Where ( Stalag Luft ) he became a POW? Any information would be most welcomed. Many thanks Adriano Baumgartner |

Re: Robert James Dixon (14th PRS / 7th PRG ) loss over Merseburg?
Your information is correct. The story is available in the book "Eyes of the Eighth" by Patricia Fussell Keen. He was in Stalag VIIA at Moosburg. He went on to become a 4 star general and headed Tactical Air Command. If you need any more specific information feel free to contact me. BTW Dixon flew 28 combat missions in Korea and 36 in Viet Nam.
