Stalag IIID Berlin
I am researching Stalag IIID which was situated in Berlin. It appears to be a camp with specific intentions for those allied airmen it held after having been processed at Dulag Luft.
Has anyone else researching a pow held in the camp. I am getting problems in finding anything much about it. Thanks for reading my quest for help. I have obviously explored the MI9 reports aspect. Look forward to any comments on this interesting subject. |

Re: Stalag IIID Berlin
Stalag III D
*Established 14 August 1940 on Landweg/Ecke Osdorferstraße in Berlin-Lichterfelde (approximately 1 km from the Lichterfelde-Süd S-Bahn). The commander and camp offices (Kommandantur) were later located at Belle-Alliancestraße 106-107 in Kreuzberg (Berlin SW 61). The camp consisted exclusively of prisoners of war, all of whom were allocated to sub-camps (Zweiglager) and work details (Arbeitskommandos). Camp medical needs were provided by Reservelazarett (reserve hospital) 119 Neuköln and 128 Bieldorf. Except as noted below, Stalag III D remained in existence until the end of the war. The camp’s prisoners were from Belgium, Great Britain, France, Yugoslavia, Soviet Union, Poland, USA, Italy and Czechoslovakia. The camp’s maximum capacity was 58,000. Zweiglager: ZL Falkensee (still in operation 14.12.44); ZL Groß Schulzendorf über Zossen (still in operation 14.12.44); ZL Wutzetz über Friesack/Mark. (closed and disbanded between 1.9.43 and 28.12.43); ZL Damm I über Friesack/Mark. (still in operation 14.12.44); ZL Damm II über Friesack/Mark. (closed and disbanded between 1.9.43 and 28.12.43); ZL Wustrau I über Neuruppin (closed and disbanded between 25.9.43 and 14.12.43); ZL Wustrau II über Neuruppin Wall/Kreis Ruppin (still in operation 14.12.44); ZL Zietenhorst post Wustrau über Neuruppin (closed and disbanded between 25.9.43 and 14.12.43); ZL Kirchhain/Niederlausitz (camp transferred from Stalag III B to Stalag III D between 25.9 44 and 14.12.44); [Source: Mattiello G. and W. Re: Stalag IIID Berlin
Larry.
Thank you very much despite lots of searching I never found anything like that. Not sure if you have an interest in this areas as well, the subject of my research was noted as being held in the Auto Hotel Charlottenburg late 1943 to early 1944. But still under control of IIID Does your reference material make any mention of this venue at all. Thanks again. Colin. |

Re: Stalag IIID Berlin
Hi Colin,
No, no mention of the hotel, but it seems to make sense. It's possible a detail like that would be in the Unterlagen at the Red Cross International Tracing Service center in Arolsen. Their 50,000,000 pages of material were first opened to researchers in 2006, I believe, and they would have many folders on Stalag III D. Give them a try: http://www.its-arolsen.org/de/system/welcome/welcome/ . Larry |
