He177 KM+UL 550068 lost May 1944

The new He177 book shows this aircaft of II/KG40 as lost to a night fighter in May 1944 with the crew all killed, having been repaired following 10% bomb damage on 27-3-44. Can anyone confirm the loss of this aircraft in May,
Thanks

Brian Bines

Should read KM+UR

Re: He177 KM+UL 550068 lost May 1944

Hi Brian

The W.Nr.550068 is in "Heinkel He177, 277, 274" from Griehl & Dressel Airlife, 1998 show as stkz KM+UR

So one must be wrong.

Best Regards

Re: He177 KM+UL 550068 lost May 1944

II/KG 40 was one of those units which did not record ac details on its NVMs but the only loss in May was 15 May 44 when an ac from 5/KG 40 was shot down by a night-fighter at Mont De Marsan which would match with Kipp's claim night of 14-15 May 44

Chris,

Thanks for the info. I did get the NVMs for II/KG40 for the period, but they did not include this one,
