Location of Puchwitschi airfield
Gentlemen,
I cannot locate this airfield. Does anyone know where it was? III Gruppe./KG53 were stationed there Dec 1943-Jan 1944. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ed |

Re: Location of Puchwitschi airfield
Had you bought our book you could have looked it up: deZeng, Henry L. IV and Douglas G. Stankey. Bomber Units of the Luftwaffe 1933-1945. 2 volumes. London: Ian Allan Publishing, 2007 and 2008. ISBNs (10) 1 903223 72 5 and (10) 1 903223 87 3. III./KG 53 Operations in Central and South Russia. Some of Gruppe’s crews made up to 7 flights a night during the week before the 30,000 survivors were able to break out of the pocket. 21 Feb 44: returned to Siauliai and began long-distance day and night flights to sharpen the navigation skills needed for strategic bombing missions. Thank you. I was just asking for the physical location for an airfield map.
