Seeking codes of 5./KG55 He111 SD 13 May 1940 near Attert, Belgium
Hello,
On 13 May 1940, an He111 from 5./KG55 belly landed fully intact near Attert, Belgium, several hundred meters from the border with Luxembourg. We know the crew, etc., but what I don't know is the codes of the aircraft, presumably G1+?N. Is this possibly G1+FN? Can anyone confirm what the full code on this aircraft was? Anyone have any photos showing this one? Regards, |

Re: Seeking codes of 5./KG55 He111 SD 13 May 1940 near Attert, Belgium
Hi Larry,
In "Combats oubliés du ciel des Ardennes & de la Marne" by Francoise and Pierre Roger (as correction list of their first volume "Combats Aeriens ..."") they indeed give the full aircraft code of this a/c as G1+FN. I suppose you have the picture of this crash, which you can find in "Bataille Aérienne and Rupture ..." by Sacré and Gillet. Regards, Pieter |

Pieter,
Thanks, found the photo, although it's so small you can't really see codes or details. Does anyone else have info and/or photos of this crash? Regards, |

Re: Seeking codes of 5./KG55 He111 SD 13 May 1940 near Attert, Belgium
Pieter,
It has taken a little time to sort this one out, but it appears that the photo in Sacre/Gillet for 13 May 1949, and the same one in Gillet's French Victories Vol I is probably G1+FN. I'm hoping to find a better photo of this FL with the full codes displayed to confirm that it is +FN rather than +EN. We do have two other photos of what is apparently G1+FN in the EOE DB, but they mainly show the He111 from the front with no coding details. Are there photos of this plane in the Francoise and Pierre Roger book? I don't have this source. Regards, |

Larry,
No photos there, and also no source for the code. And the one in the Sacre/Gillet book is indeed very small. Hope you have better ones. Pieter |
