5.(F)/122 OTL F.Prager

Hello, friends!

13Apr1943 Ju88 (OTL F.Prager) from 5.(F)/122 failed to return. Who knows location of the event or area of his last flight?

Regards,
Andrey

Re: 5.(F)/122 OTL F.Prager

Hi Andrey,

Obstlt Friedrich-Karl Prager was Gr.Kdr. FAGr. 1 at the time he went MIA in a Ju 88D-1 (1257; F6+VN), the a/c belonged to 5.(F)/122. The pilot was Fw Heinz Schuster 5.(F)/122 who was also MIA.

I have no details of location, but I'm sure others will provide more info.

Best Regards

Andy Fletcher

Andrey,

Likewise cannot add much more.

The Loss return dated 15.4.1943 gave the details of the crew, here are the extra names other than those that you have:-

Fw Heinz Singelmann (Bf)

Ofw. Paul Pütsold (Bm)

Both also missing

Ju 88D-1 (1257) F6+VN.

Location of loss = Unbekannt

Cause = Unbekannt.

Re: 5.(F)/122 OTL F.Prager

From our files we find two Friedrich Pragers, one was a paratrooper and the other a recon guy:

PRAGER, Friedrich (Friedrich-Karl).
(DOB: 06.02.04).
…. omitting his career details …..
12.42 Obstlt., appt Kdr. FAGr. 1 (to 13.04.43 MIA – in Ju 88 D-1 that failed to return from a recce mission east of Lake Ilmen).

That’s all we have on this guy. Sorry.

Doug/Larry,

Many thanks for adding the final piece - a possible location. Any idea of the source of this snippet?

Andy -

Friedrich Prager was a candidate for the Generalstab der Luftwaffe and took the necessary courses at the Luftkriegsakademie. But on completion he was evaluated "unsuitable" (reason not given) as were a third or more of those who went through the academy. Because of his selection for the Generalstab and his attendance at the Luftkriegsakademie, copies of his personnel records were in the possession of Abt. 5 of the Luftwaffenpersonalamt at the end of the war and were thus microfilmed by the USSBS team in Paris, summer 1945. I have the microfilms. The mission entry for 13 April 1943 is directly from his personnel records.
