Uffz Hans-Georg Güthenke 11 June 1943
Hello,
I'm interested in the actions of the above man on 11 June 1943. This pilot had a full day according to my sources.
In the morning he claimed a Lightning shot down at 1145 hrs at 5000 m four km SW of Dornum, north Germany. It was his first victory. His victim was possibly the F-5A 42-12777 of 13th PRS, 7th PRG, 8th Air Force that was lost this day. The pilot of this aircraft, Lt. Hershel L Turner, survived as a POW.
In the late afternoon, JG 11 intercepted twice a B-17 raid on Wilhemshaven and Cuxhaven, on the way to the target (between 1750 and 1820) and on the way back (between 1930 and 1950). In this battle, Güthenke's Fw 190 A-4 WNr 5703 was hit by return fire and destroyed at 80% in an emergency landing on Marx airfield. Güthenke was unhurt (and became later a 7-victory ace).
That is what I know. I'm searching some more details:
1) confirmation that he shot down the F-5A of 13th PRS in the morning.
2) more details about the afternoon action.
I would be interested to know if the books of Jochen Prien on JG 11 or the book "Eyes of the Eight" (history book of the 7th PRG) have more details about this day.
Thanks in advance
Laurent
