Who knows this unit ??

Ltn Wirtz of the 3.Luftbeobachterstaffel crashed on 8.january 1944 , using amazingly a Fw190

Somehow I have missed this old posting of yours. Yes, Ludwig Wirtz flew a Fw190. He started next to a Ju88 of the same unit, but he did not know that a flight mechanic had forgotten a heavy toolbox in the rear fuselage of the Fw190. When the Fw190 climbed, the toolbox shifted to the rear end, thus shifting the point of gravity. The Fw190 stalled and crashed, killing Wirtz. What has become of the mechanic is beyond my knowledge...
